Abstract:Thispaperprovidesacomprehensivereviewtotheconceptofdebitageanalysisonlithicresearch,oneofthemostimportantconceptssince1970s.Havingdiscusseditsdevelopment,definition,context,andapplications,theauthorsconsidertheconceptofdebitageanalysistobemultiplelinesofevidenceinlithicanalysis,ratherthansimpleanalyticaltechniquesequivalentto/corereduction,functionanalysisormassanalysis,whichcouldbeintegratedintoanalysesofhumanbehaviors.Intheauthor′sview,theframeworkofdebitageanalysiswasbuiltontwokindsofanalyses(technologicalanalysisandattributeanalysis)thatareconnectedthroughanoperationalsequence;itcanexplaincomplicatedhumanbehaviorsandprovidesomedataforbehavioralandadaptivestrategiesoftoolfabricationanddailyactivityadoptedbyhumanbeingsatthePaleolithicsites.Inaddition,thispaperthinksthatthistheoreticalconceptstillhassomeproblemsthatneedtoberefinedinfuture.Authorputsforwardhisownopinionsaboutworkingemphases.
